Qualitative Respiratory Mask Fit Testing is a short, 30 minute procedure that is a requirement for Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario if you plan to open your Dental Office for Emergency / Urgent Care.
Getting properly fitted is essential for the safety of people working in an area where possible contamination is possible – dental operatory, labs, isolation rooms, et cetera. Mask fit testing is also mandatory for treating patients that present with an emergency or urgent condition that CANNOT be managed without generating an aerosol (i.e. high-speed handpiece or air-water syringe MUST be used.
Upon successful completion of a mask fit test, you will receive a certificate of completion which is valid for 2 years.
Before coming in for a fit test, please ensure you:
Have not had anything to eat/drink (with the exception of water) at least 30 min prior to your appointment (this even includes gum!)
Have not smoked within 30 min of your appointment.
Have removed any facial hair that will come between the seal of the mask and your skin (shave before your test!)
