Course Description

This course will build upon previously acquired knowledge and experience of Acute Coronary Syndromes, to improve competencies in the management of cardiac clients during the acute and rehabilitative phases of hospitalization. The major focus is directed at developing skill in advanced dysrhythmia analysis and 12 lead electrocardiogram (ECG) interpretation.

Emphasis is placed on the client with myocardial infarction and the recognition of pathological changes, localization and evolutionary patterns of the ECG, its treatment and associated complications. Nursing management of patients with Acute Coronary Syndromes will be identified in varying stages of the disease process.

Students will have an opportunity to examine and critically analyze a variety of 12 lead ECGs and case studies. Discussion will be based on current research findings in nursing and related fields.
