Course Description

This one-day course is essential for health care providers who are planning and providing care for individuals requiring a urinary catheter. It also provides helpful revision for qualified nurses responsible for over – seeing effective continence management. Although it is a common procedure, it carries many risks and is a significant cause of healthcare acquired infections.

This course is designed to demonstrate:

  • Anatomy and physiology of the urinary system

  • The risk of urinary catheterisation

  • Indications for catheterisation

  • Assessment of the individual

  • Legal issues, consent and documentation

  • Infection prevention and control

  • Catheter related equipment

  • Catheter care

  • Lubrication

The classes involves simulations, lecture, and evaluative assessments. Experienced trainers will provide a hands-on approach in instruction.
