Course Description

This is a one-day program blended with comprehensive lecture and laboratory. The workshop is designed to enhance learners’ knowledge and skills to administer intramuscular injections competently and safely. The conceptual framework of the nursing process is utilized (assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating) in the care of clients requiring medications through injection route.

This course is designed to:

  • Embrace the latest research findings by applying evidence-based practice in the administration of injections

  • Proximate anatomical references in order to identify landmarks and injection sites safely and confidently as well as the different equipment used in administration

  • Demonstrate knowledge of principles of safe and appropriate preparation of medications administered in these routes

  • Describe, demonstrate and perform appropriate techniques for administering injections

  • Accurately calculate medication dosages

  • Equip with knowledge and clinical reasoning on the different adverse effects of the administration of injections

  • Know the legal aspect of administering injections

  • Perform proper documentation of the procedure/care provided

  • Evaluate the knowledge and competency skills of the learners through return demonstration and post-test
